On Australia Day (26 January) we headed out to the local park in Melbourne’s Docklands for a barbecue lunch. For those not from here, a barbecue on Australia’s official national holiday is a good old tradition with Aussies all across the country having them.

After lunch I thought it would be fun to try a little ‘play fight’ action photography. Everyone got together and experimented with leaps, punches and kicks in front of the camera. The old school Street Fighter arcade game was our main inspiration. We ended up with some interesting shots. Here’s one of my favourites.

    Hello,
Stumbled across your image whilst researching for work. Love your play action photos. Reminded of me and my brothers when we were younger and did various martial arts. We would stage fights on the beach and he would let me look like I was kicking the shit out of him with amazing acrobats and back flips so people further down the beach would think we were having this amazing Kung Fu fight.

Plus we used to do arcade game versions to.
Thanks for the memories, hope to see you bouncing around in the park next time Im in Melbourne
