There’s Snow At Mt Buller

Stoj, David, Bien, Huy, Nghia and myself headed up to Mt Buller this morning. We were all excited as it was the first trip of the season. The season only officially started last weekend but there has been very little to no snowfall. Luckily, enough snow fell in last couple of days (together with man made snow) for us to head up for some snowboarding.

Only the Bourke St run was open but that was enough to satisfy our snowboarding cravings especially since the conditions were so clear and beautiful. We couldn’t have hoped for a better day.

Here are some of the photos from today. The last two were taken at Mansfield where we had a pizza for dinner. Between the six of us we managed to down a total of 3 large and 3 medium pizzas!

Scene looks familiar. When I was there they had a machine to help make us more snow. Good skiing.

Are you guys pro? Your gear oozes with steez. Can’t wait for our season to start again!

Oh no we’re not pros but thanks for the compliment on our gear though :)

I’m not very good but I can ride ok. I still have my fair share of falls. A couple of my mates here are pretty good though.

It’s funny that there’s only one white guy in your crew! Are you guys Korean?

The guys in this group have either a Chinese or Vietnamese background with the exception of Stoj of course.

Hi, the pictures look good! We are making plans to it there this coming winter opening, which is 7th June…. based on the year you went, it didn’t snow much? Even so, did they use the snow machine during opening celebrations?

Really don’t wish to be disappointed :( Tickets bought.

    Hi Bonnie,

There wasn’t a lot of snow for the start of the season in 2008 but together with snowmaking there was just enough coverage for the Bourke St run to open.

Hopefully you’ll be in luck this year with some decent early snowfall.

    Hi Kham,

Thanks for the info :) We are literally praying that the big Boss up there will make it snow on the opening week ^^

Read your blog, it’s very interesting. Seems like you are a constant visitor to Mt Buller? Can you recommend some good and affordable hotel/apartment to stay up there? Preferably in walking distance to where the main entrance is.

    Thanks again!

We do go to Buller quite often but just for day trips since the drive isn’t too long from Melbourne. I’ve only ever stayed on mountain at Mt Hotham. It’s expensive but so convenient. There’s nothing better than walking a couple of hundred metres from your door straight to a run.

    Hi Kham,
Do you predict snow for the first week of July 09, we hope so!
We just bought all new gear and have already booked our acccomodation for 4/07/09.
    Thanks :-)

    Hi Jess,

I’m currently living in London so I haven’t been looking at the reports for Buller this season. I’m sure the conditions will be right for some snowmaking so I think you’ll at the very least get the main runs.
