You’ll have no trouble at all since most people in Phuket speak some English. It would make sense since the vast majority of tourists holidaying there were from Australia. That’s how it was when I was there anyway.

Do many people speak English in Phuket? I am considering a trip there myself and wondered if I would be completely lost only being able to speak English.

Yes, the place was hit hard by the 2004 tsunami but has since been pretty much completely rebuilt. The only evidence of the tsunami I could see were the warning signs scattered around the town advising of where to go in the case of another tsunami and the tsunami photographs sold by the local street vendors.

No, I haven’t been to the States yet but I’m definitely planning to. Hopefully in the next 12 months or so.

Didn’t that area suffer the brunt of damage during the tsunami? If so, was there any evidence of the tsunami?
