I had dinner yesterday at Dong Ba (133 Hopkins St, Footscray), one of my favourite Vietnamese restaurants in Footscray. They specialise in bun bo hue, which a mildly spicy noodle soup dish with thick rice noodles.

Bun bo hue has got to be one of my favourite Vietnamese dishes, probably only second to pho, another popular Vietnamese noodle soup dish.

Wow, looks delicious! I think it’s something like tom yum… that Thai dish, also hot and spicy. Anyway, how’s your preparation for Chinese New Year? When I was in Vietnam last December, I was told that Vietnamese also celebrate Chinese New year is a grand way. Hope you’ll have lots of prosperity and good health in the year of the golden Rat!

Oh I love tom yum. Bun bo hue actually doesn’t have sour flavour of tom yum though.

I don’t really do any preparations for Chinese New Year. My parents do though. Yeah I remember being in Vietnam for Tet last year. It was totally crazy!

That looks good, but even kimchi soup is too much zesty for me.

I recommend the bun bo hue at Vietnam Noodle House on Swanston St. I’ve been to many a restaurant in Footscray, Springvale and all over the CBD. Although most had a decent bun bo hue to offer, it just didn’t match. =D

I am an Aussie living in Vung Tau Vietnam and eat Bun Bo Hue most mornings for breakfast. I am coming back to Melb next month with my Vietnamese wife, thanks for the tips on where we can get nice Bun Bo Hue.
