Banh Canh Noodle Soup

I just had banh canh for dinner and man was it good. It brought back recent memories of eating banh canh at Ben Thanh market in Saigon. Banh canh was one of my favourite things to eat after a big night out on the town when I was living in Vietnam.

For those who don’t know banh canh is a Vietnamese noodle soup dish with thick rice noodles, a thickish broth and normally includes either crab, prawns, fish, pork or a combination. The one I just ate had sliced prawn cakes, fish balls, pork and fried tofu.

Noodles are common here in Malaysia. We have Chinese styled, Indian styled noodles. But perhaps I should go to a Vietnamese restaurant and taste the noodles there as well. :)

Mmm… never tried it either, and I must say it looks a lot different than the South African food I’m used to.

Unfortunately I am extremely picky. I would definitely give it a try though, coz it looks yummy, but I couldn’t promise that I’d finish it :P

Wow… It looks so delicious. I have not enjoyed it yet but I will try it. However, it has much oil. I will make new Vietnamese banh canh in future, with not much oil, a special taste. I will do it and introduce to you. I am trying to find out as much information as possible to support my special banh canh noodle soup. Thanks for your blog.

I don’t think it actually has a lot of added oil. I think most of the fat comes from the pork trotters that are usually used as the base for the soup.
