Egg In The Basket

I was watching V for Vendetta on TV the other day and saw the character V make ‘egg in the basket’ for Evey, Natalie Portman’s character. She seemed to enjoy it so much that I decided to make one for myself. Sad, aren’t I?

Anyways, the dish was so simple to prepare. I started with a slice of bread just buttered on one side. Using a thin drinking glass I made a whole in the middle. I then put the slice of bread into the fry pan browning one side and then turning it over. I cracked an egg in the hole and threw the lid on the fry pan for a few minutes. This helps the egg to rise a little making for a nice and flush finish. So yeah, a bit of salt and pepper to taste and there you have it. Egg in the basket.

At first glance I thought it looked burnt, he he. I think it’s the pepper.

I remember that in the movie. Maybe I’ll make this for my kids on Saturday morning. I love eggs and toast.

Nice idea! If you ever need to cook a romantic breakfast use a heart-shaped cookie cutter instead of a glass! :)
