Saigon Yellow Rose

I’ve been experimenting with taking close up shots of things with my Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W50 6.0 megapixel digital camera with the flash and macro option turned on. This has really produced some very interesting results and all without the aid of colour filters.

I have posted my favourite photo that I took over the Tet period here in Saigon. It has been saved in 1280×1024 resolution so it can be used as desktop wallpaper. This photo has not been digitally enhanced.

Steamboat Dinner In District 8

A couple of days ago on the eve of the Lunar New Year (The 2007 Lunar New Year in Vietnam begins on the 17th as opposed to the 18th of February this year due to the 1 hour time difference between Hanoi and Beijing. The Chinese calendar is based on astronomical observations and therefore dependent on local time.) I went and had dinner at my youngest uncle’s house in district 8 which is about 20 minutes motorcycle ride from central Saigon.

We had steamboat and steamed coral trout which was magnificent. I couldn’t wait to get into it so I didn’t get the chance to take any photos of it haha. The night ended with a few glasses of Hennessy XO which was nice. Haha and it got me a bit pissed as well.

Tet In Saigon

Oink oink it’s nearly the 2007 Year of the Pig! Umm err yeah… Haha anyways, it was already like 12:30am and there were still heaps of people walking the streets of Saigon taking in all the colourful Tet displays in celebration of the 2007 Lunar New Year. I did a bit of walking around taking random shots along the way and by 1:45am I was feeling pretty knackered so I decided to call it an early night and head off home. Check out the photos.

Seafood Macaroni & Cheese

Yes, I know it’s two posts about food in a row. It’s no wonder why I’m getting fat. Haha anyways, the other day I was feeling a little bit peckish so I thought I’d cook up a hunger busting Kraft macaroni and cheese dinner. To make it a little bit more interesting I decided to thrown in some prawns and canned tuna.

So yeah, I basically cooked it all up, threw in the prawn and tuna mix, added some cheddar cheese for extra bite and that’s it. My seafood macaroni and cheese dinner was ready for me to chow down. Check out the photos!

Saigon Fast Food

I wouldn’t really consider all these dishes fast food but anyways, I just wanted to share a few photos of the food I’ve eaten at my home in Saigon. I hardly ever cook so to satisfy my hunger when I’m at home I order in. Good thing for me most of the restaurants around here deliver.

Ok, so the dishes are as follows. Chinese seafood noodles, omelette with ham served with salad and crusty bread, fried prawns in taro batter, potato skins with bacon, cheese and spring onion, my own instant noodle creation stir fried with crab stick and tuna, and last of all crab spring rolls.

Everything you see has been ordered in with the exception of my instant noodle creation of course. So yeah, that’s pretty much it. Oh and a new restaurant just opened in my apartment building so I’ll be posting up some more dishes soon.
